Tutorial : How to install XBMC 13.2 Gotham on Apple TV1 using OpenELEC

After playing around with Apple TV 1 and digging web for around 2 days, i am writing my experience of installing XBMC Gotham 13.2 on Apple TV 1 running OS 3.0.2. So here we go.

Option 1 : Installing XBMC OpenELEC onto Hard drive of Apple TV 1

Step 1 : you need a USB stick to load OpenELEC firmware
Step 2 : download USBIT (USB imaging tool) from here and unzip it.
Step 3 : download OpenELEC installer (in other words Image) to install OpenELEC on hard drive of Apple TV 1 from here and unzip it.
Step 4 : download Apple iOS 3.0.2 to format and reinstall the firmware to Apple TV 1 from here
Step 5 : take the USB stick and install the image downloaded in Step 4 using USBID tool downloaded in Step 2. To do so, run the USBIT tool, select the USB stick from left panel and click on Restore button. It will ask you to select the image file, select the image file from the location where you unzipped image downloaded in Step 4. Once the Restore is complete, Take the USB stick out of your PC and connect it to Apple TV 1.
Step 6 : Boot up Apple TV 1, it will auto detect USB stick and start installation of iOS 3.0.2, if it doesnt, boot up again, and press Menu and + sign from your ATV remote.
Step 7 : It will boot up and ask you to select Language, next select Restore option, next Restore option, next WIFI detection, from here on its standard process. Once installation is complete, it will be fresh copy of Apple TV 1.
Step 8 : Select Audio Output to HDMI High or HDMI low by going to General, select Audio and Video and then Audio Output.
Step 9 : Plug the Same USB stick to your PC, Launch USBIT tool, Select USB Stick from left panel, click Reset button, and then do quick format of the USB from the folder explorer.
Step 10 : After format is done, Select USB stick from left panel, click Restore button, Select Image file we downloaded in Step 3, Once Restore is complete, unplug USB stick from laptop and plug it in Apple TV 1.
Step 11 : Boot up ATV1, you will see OpenELEC logo and then a command prompt will show up with execution process. It will wait for 30 second with a warning, if you are not sure, unplug apple tv 1 from power right now, after 30 seconds, it will continue the execution, seat back and wait until it boots up again, now you will see setup screen for OpenELEC, after you do basic setupit will launch XBMC Gotham 13.2

Good luck with the installation, for any questions, suggestions, leave a comment.

If you are looking for a Apple TV replacement, here is a good deal, fully programmed, latest hardware and software.
